I am uncommonly bad about making announcements and telling people things so, uh, I'm moving to Huntsville, Alabama in mid-August.

As much as I love DC, and I really do, I can't afford to live here, and I think this winter broke my brain, so I am going to become a remote employee (or feral, as I prefer to think of it) and move somewhere less expensive and wintry.

    So there you go. Woo-hoo.

    :kaos_pblindfolded: <--Also, what the fuck?

Think you'll be able to be a feral employee indefinitely?

    Why Huntsville?

Huntsville has always been a favorite place. I used to go there in my NASA days and always felt at home. The cost of living is, well, livable, several friends live there or nearby, no relatives live there or nearby, and the winters are milder and shorter.

    Congrats on your move.

If I were picking somewhere in the south, I'd be cool with your distance to the mountains, but I'd look closer to the ocean. The less oily part.

Tis the season for moving... but I think all of you know that I'm moving (again) to a new place in Portland, hopefully this time with fewer (read: NO) rats and better (read: some, and consistent) water pressure.

I keep trying to think of where I'd want to live if I didn't stay here. I figure as long as I have no idea, I'll stay put.

I'm actually still kinda sorta house hunting.

Realtors won't get back to me directly, so I'm hoping my buyer's agent can bust down some doors. There's an old convent with my name on it.

I have dreams of moving to the 'farm' my wife's family has in Vermont, but I don't think they have access to broadband, the house has been hit by a car on 3 separate occasions, and it's hours away from anything.

There are alot of dakotas to choose from! BE CAREFUL!

Or sidestep the choice by moving to MISSOURI. Your reward is right there in the state's mispronounced name!

You are right about those dakotas. I better stay away from them altogether. I have been to Missouri and never want to return. Maybe I will move to Sasquatchewan.

If you move to Brazil you have to be in swimsuit shape 12 months of the year. I will pass.

True and very difficult to manage, especially when one loves cooking, drinking and having fun. I have yielded to vice and am continuously sinning against my waist (without repent).

I knew it. I should move to Brazil. Then again, I can yield to vice anywhere, I suppose, but it sounds like a hell of a lot more fun to do it in Brazil. Or maybe Costa Rica. My brother keeps trying to tempt/lure me back to the TN/GA area, which isn't quite the same, but it may very well happen. Some day.

Yes, all these moments exist. Like anywhere else in the world, I suppose. Some wage war on their own territory, others make double trouble elsewhere. C'est la vie.

"That's too many people on one beach."

Urban beaches are likely to be crowded.

Meanwhile..most are pristine - Brazil sports 8000 km of coast

There is room enough - it's just that some prefer to be piled up on top of others...

Another friend of mine just got a job in Huntsville and is moving there at the end of the month. This makes three people I know there, as well as close proximity to the large group of friends in Atlanta, Melt in Chattanooga, and the group of friends and family in Nashville. Hm...

Prepare yourself for a visit from me before much longer. :)
