I got one of those Breo watches from a Cuban woman who was running a kiosk in a mall in Ft. Lauderdale. She was trying to get $25 for it, but I talked her down to $20. It is awesome and I've had no problems with it. Plus, it is orange, so it doubles as a safety beaconajig. I was looking for a watch I wouldn't mind wearing while playing soccer and wondering how much longer we had before they shut off the lights and left us stranded in the middle of the field, surrounded by bears and fire ants and crocodilians just waiting for us to be blind and vulnerable.

I have not yet gotten a cocktail watch, but I will.

guys I have a new favorite... I just found out about these

Seagull 1963 Chinese air force watch reissue.

I am loving all the colors. It makes me think of how hi-tech consumer goods used to look from third-tier Crazy Eddie knockoff stores... like the gold-chrome walkman clones with the red buttons or the brass-accented pocket calculator in a brown fake-leather sleeve.

Too bad it's like $200+ anywhere you look. I don't break a hunj when it comes to whims such as these.

yeah the military / nato / zulu straps are pretty standard stuff, but that one's pretty weak. I'd probably go off-character and get some kind of fancy leather strap for it and treat it like a dress watch.

Seriously, when are they just going to go ahead and display the time on the moon with a giant laser? We have the technology.

there would have to be some kind of sick lenticular laser that displayed a different time in different time zones.

The laser would be at Cape Canaveral and at EST. Everyone else can learn math.

Had some mint juleps and bought this on eBay over the weekend

I... Think I actually bought more than one but I have decided not to check. I'll just let the mailman surprise me.

There's actually lots of good star wars watches. Red LED ones and tons of cheapo novelty digitals. I think the blue one up there was first and I also think it's a very lousy windup so I am considering replacing the movement to make it the most advanced cheap junk star wars watch on earth.

bad news, de facto watch blog!

the watch pictured above is pretty small which isn't too big a deal, but it is REALLY LOUD when it ticks... and it ticks like the 60 Minutes clock... relentless and not ignorable. So unless I decide to do a bunch of work, that watch isn't happening... and it's in such good shape that I might be able to sell it for like 9 times what I paid, which makes me hesitant to gut it.

I also bought this for not much money:

And was surprised to learn that it is literally a children's watch... it is comically small... like it would just fit on a cabbage patch doll!

    TOTAL BUST.

I was in a hurry to overcome my star wars failure disappointment so I bought a cheaper watch off of a dude on watchuseek.

It's nothing wacky, but it's got a nice shiny blue face to which this awful picture does no justice. It also has a solid link bracelet (meaning the metal chunks are actual metal chunks and not sheet metal folded into the shape) and a swiss movement... and as you can possibly tell from this blur-smear, it has the overabundance of data that means nothing to my brain but EVERYTHING TO MY HEART.

of course I don't love the bracelet even though it's HIGH CLASS... and I am already thinking about putting it on a blue nato / zulu (nylon military style) strap.
